DIY Decoration - Stripy Straw Wreath

Morning! I hope you all had a fab weekend.  Yesterday I found this great idea for a wreath and knew I just had to share it with you all.  Stripy straws are the perfect party styling accessory currently but I am sure you will agree that this wreath made using stripy straws is very cool.  I think it would look great hung above a dessert or sweetie table or even on a door.  Perhaps you can make smaller ones and string them together to make a unique wreath? Or try making using a rainbow of colours or in a pastel shade for a baby shower.  I love diy projects with endless possibilities and think this stripy straw wreath may just be one of those projects!

Party Trend - Chevron Stripes

Morning! I hope you have all had a fab week.  This week I have been thinking about trends in the party world and don't panic we will be covering the Jubilee and Olympics very soon here on Let's Plan A Party.  But for today I want to share a trend that has been quietly creeping into party styling for a little while and now seems to have exploded as I am seeing it alot.  It would seem that chevron stripes are the new pinstripes of the party world.  Just as foxes are the new owls and apples are the new pears in the interiors world, chevron stipes are taking over from our much loved straight pinstripes.  The zig zag of these stripes look fabulous in bright, bold colours or in a paler palette and look great as bunting or cupcake toppers or as bottle labels.

Chevron Rainbow Birthday Party Printables from Andersruff

Chevron Cupcake Wrappers & Toppers from Gemma Touchstone

So do you love or loathe chevron stripes? Although I love pinstripes I actually kind of like the pointedness of chevrons and the way they add pattern to a party.

Have a fantastic weekend,

Poppy Sparkles - Jewellery to Treasure

Morning! I hope you are all well and not too fed up with this horrid weather, I am sure warmer Spring days will arrive very soon.  Today I have something that I am sure will add some sparkles to yoru day, the beautiful jewellery of Poppy Sparkles. I have brought special birthstone necklaces for my daughters birthdays in the past year and more recently friendship bracelets, including one as a treat for me aswell.

The birthstone necklaces are simply beautiful and can be treasured forever.  My daughters have 16" silver chains at the moment, but the birthstone and pearl can easily be transferred onto longer chains when they are older.  These make wonderful gifts for bridesmaids or as a birthday or christening gift.

Poppy Sparkles also have a fab collection of friendship bracelets that mums and daughters alike love to wear.  There are three different options, a pearl, your birthstone or both on a choice of ten coloured cords.  I wear mine everyday and my daughters all love to wear theirs, they are just cross they can't wear them to school! These friendship bracelets are perfect gifts for your friends, your childrens friends or even as a special wedding or party favour.  I know I would love to find one at the base of my glass at a wedding breakfast and I am sure older girls would much prefer these to a favour bag filled with sweets and little toys!  Poppy Sparkles offer a fab discount if you buy sets of five or ten friendship bracelets.

Aswell as birthstone jewellery and friendship bracelets, Viv, Poppy Sparkles designer and owner, loves to make beautiful bespoke pieces for weddings and proms.  Viv will work with you to create the jewellery you want to wear for any special occasion.

I am sure you will all agree Poppy Sparkles jewellery is beautiful and the thing I love most is that it can be worn everyday, not hidden away in my jewellery box.

Have a sparkly day,

Movie Night Party Inspiration

Morning! Again we are at the end of the week and I am sure many of us are looking forward to the weekend.  Today I would like to share some inspiration for a Movie Night party theme.  Firstly it is important to choose the movie as this may have some bearing on your styling, eg Star Wars, Disney Princesses.  Yet you might just like a more general movie theme with a red carpet entrance and a rope tacked across the door to the 'cinema' and a sign on the door saying 'Now Showing'.

Comfortable seating is a necessity and plenty of it too.  Don't panic if you only have a large sofa, bean bags or large cushions can work or line up rows of dining chairs to make rows like a cinema.

Games can also be played before or after the movie.  Maybe a game of charades, or a film trivia game or even movie bingo.  A prop box would make for a fun movie themed photo booth, letting guests dress up as movie stars.

Of course popcorn must be served and perhaps hot dogs too.  Serve plain popcorn in bags that can then be seasoned from sugar and salt shakers or maybe Parmesan or dried herbs aswell.  Alternatively have large serving bowls with different flavoured popcorn in each bowl for guests to choose their favourite flavours.  A sweetie bar would also be fun or serve ice creams for an old fashioned styled ice cream sellers tray.  Why not print pretend money for guests to buy their treats!

So close the curtains, dim the lights, the movie is about to begin.
Enjoy,
Zoe

Christening Photography

Good morning, I hope you are having a good week.  Today I thrilled to welcome Katie from Katie Byram Photography to share with you the reasons for having a professional photographer at a Christening.

I have recently had the pleasure of photographing some beautiful christenings, and several people have been pleasantly surprised that they are able to have high quality images similar to that from a wedding, at their child's christening. I am surprised at the number of people who don't realise this service is available and opt to have blurry low resolution mobile phone snaps of their child's special day. I wanted explore the reasons why you should consider hiring a professional photographer, as it is something that is often overlooked when planning a christening or a naming ceremony.

  • A christening happens once in a child's lifetime. More than likely, they will be too young to remember it, so having photographs they can treasure and look back on is a precious thing.

  • All of your family are dressed up formally and the ladies have their best hats on – having photographs of this occasion means you have some lovely family portraits in more natural setting than in a studio

  • Compact & mobile phones cameras do not generally work in low light in the church, and flash photography is often prohibited, meaning your images are generally blurry. A photographer has a professional kit meaning they can get gorgeous images in low light.

  • A photographer has experience and 'the eye' of all the creative ways to take your photographs, meaning your images have an arty and stylish feel.

  • Having a photographer there will ensure the christening is a relaxing experience as your main focus can be on your child and your family, whilst knowing the photographer is capturing all of the special candid moments of your day.

  • A professional photographer will have experience in events, weddings and christenings, and quietly blend into the background of the day, ensuring they are unobtrusive in their approach.

  • You will not have to worry about your camera being fully charged or whether you cleared your memory card, your photographer will not only have their main kit, but a back up incase anything goes wrong.

  • A photographer may also offer professional album design of the images from the christening, which is a fantastic precious family keepsake, and something that will last a lifetime.

  • Careful planning, effort and money goes into a christening ceremony, and this is a once in a lifetime event for your child. Having a professional photographer means that you have a permanent record of your day for all of your family to look back on for years to come.

Katie Byram Photography is a photographer based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and covers all of the UK for weddings, christenings, events, portraits and corporate photography.

Thanks Katie, I am sure this will help many new parents trying to decide whether to book a professional photograher for their childs christening.

See you all soon,
Zoe

DIY Decorations - Candlestick Apothecary Jars

Good morning, I hope you all had a great weekend and managed to avoid the hailstorms that scattered over the UK the last couple of days.  Whilst browsing the internet this weekend for more party ideas and inspiration I came across a rather fantastic idea for your sweetie tables.  This idea would work with various sized candlesticks and jars and I am sure you will agree looks very effective, especially in bright, bold colours.  However I think these candlestick apothecary jars would also look amazing in white for a grown up sweetie table.  Then in between parties you can use them to store buttons in!

Be sure to let me know if you make these candlestick apothecary jars, I would love to see them!

Have a fab day,

Marshmallow Pops

Good morning and welcome back.  I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend and didn't overdose on chocolate.  Now with all the Easter treats eaten I am sure our thoughts are starting to turn to Jubilee celebrations in June and lots of Summer birthday parties too.  I will be sharing lots of Jubilee celebration ideas with you over the coming weeks and some fun ideas for summer parties aswell, so be sure to keep popping back for lots of inspiration.

Todays post is a quick DIY treat for parties and includes my favourite sweets, marshmallows.  I found this fab tutorial whilst on Pinterest and think it would make a great addition to a dessert or sweet table or as a party favour.  These Marshmallow Pops would also be a fab treat at a baby shower. Whilst this particular tutorial shows a pink and white theme, I am sure you could vary the colours to fit your theme by using icing instead of chocolate or use a different food colouring in your white chocolate.

Have a lovely day,
